_______________

Whenever there is a runner on second we need to think of preventing the run.  Team communication is the most important link to getting outs and minimizing runs when the ball is hit to the outfield.  Team communication starts before each pitch.

By Position:
Pitcher backs up home.  Remember to always angle yourself where an errant throw is most likely to find you.
Catcher steps up to protect the plate.  Watch for the runner to slide away from you.  Don't be lured into following her.  She has to come to the plate to score.  Hold the ball in you glove.  Remember no matter how strong you are it is easier for her to knock the ball out of your mit than any other glove on the field.
First Base lines up for cutoff home.
Second Base covers the bag.
Third Base covers the bag.
Short Stop is cutoff to third.
Left Field should always be ready to move.  Snap up the ball and throw it in as quickly as possible.  If the ball is not hit too deeply, you might have a play at third, especially if it was a pop up.  But be careful, and know your ability and the speed of the runner.  Throw ahead of the lead runner.  If it's over your head, rush to it, be conscious of your turn and be ready to throw it hard to your cutoff.
Center Field should scramble over to help the LF, even if it looks like an easy play.  You never know when he might slip, miss the ball, or have it ricochet off of his glove.  Don't be caught watching your teammate's embarrassment when you could have helped undo it.
Right Field comes in to back up an errant throw to 2nd and be ready to help everyone know where to throw it.

The Team communicates.
